Research That Gets Results

We have active research programs in nearly every aspect of chemical and biomolecular engineering; if you can think of a problem in the field, we are likely working on its solution. Our faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates work with a host of government and industry partners to apply our research in the real world.

Our research areas reflect the diversity of chemical and biomolecular engineering in their range and scope. From microfluidics and nano engineering to biotechnology, polymer science, and green energy, our work runs the gamut. If you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student, apply to NC State and help us pursue research with impact.

#4 in Research Expenditures

NC State’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is among the most productive in the nation.

Leaders in the Field

We are known across the country and around the world for the quality of our faculty. Three of NC State’s National Academies members work in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Researchers here earn national honors and lead international professional organizations, all while advancing the state of the art in their field.

For our graduate students, that breadth of faculty expertise and experience ensures that they can rely on the highest caliber of supervision as they undertake their own research projects. For our partners in academia, government and industry, the department’s deep well of talent is powerful resource waiting to be harnessed.
