Dr. Michael Dickey, Alcoa Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been selected to receive a 2020 Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award. The honor includes being inducted into the NC State Research Leadership Academy (RLA).

First presented in 1981, the Outstanding Research Award recognizes faculty members for excellence in their field and commitment to the university’s research enterprise. The selection committee is comprised of representatives from the NC State Office of Research and Innovation, the Provost’s Office and the RLA.

The RLA is a faculty advisory group to the Vice Chancellor for Research. Its goals are “to encourage a culture of mentoring across campus; empower faculty for success; advance an intellectual, multidisciplinary research community; and develop and promote best administrative practices throughout the NC State research community.”

The Dickey Research Group studies interdisciplinary problems that involve thin-films, interfaces, soft materials, and micro- and nanofabrication. The group’s research has applications in a number of areas including stretchable electronics, smart materials, soft/biomimetic electronics and energy harvesting.

Professor Dickey’s research awards and honors include the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Engineering Research Award, the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor Award, and the ASEE Curtis W. McGraw Research Award. Early in his career he was selected as a “Rising Star” by the NC State College of Engineering. In addition to his research recognitions, Prof. Dickey has received the Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award and he’s a member of the NC State Academy of Outstanding Teachers.

Congratulations to Professor Dickey for this well-deserved recognition of your research accomplishments!
