Chem E (juxtaposed on Annabel Lee)

Chem E (juxtaposed on Annabel Lee, by Edgar Allen Poe, 1849)

August 20th, so long ago

We began to study Chem E

Chapter 1 tried to show

The lines of real Chem E’s.

Chapter 2 began the study

Of units, conversions, and densities.

I was lost and you were lost

In the land of the strange Chem E

But together, our group, formed itself

And conquered the mighty Chem E.

Meeting each Tuesday, long into the night

Learning the hard Chem E.

And this was the reason that, long ago,

When we began Chapter 3

Learning of gauge and absolute pressures

And how different they can be.

And when that was known, came Chapter 4

And scrambled the brain in me,

With flow charts are mass balances

Mystifying you and me.

Chapter 5, and Ideal Gas

Showed the way to me.

Yes! That was the reason (as all students know,

In the world of Chem E),

For Pressure, Volume, and Temperature

All at STP.

But then came Chapter 6 up next

With Antoine, Raoult’s, and C-C.

All far wiser than me

And Chapter 7 and Chapter 8

With all different forms of energy

Can ever explain the difference to me

Between joules and calories.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams

Of Chapter 9 and the fun of Chem E

And it’s two in the morning but I am working

On flowcharts and more of Chem E.

And so, all the night tide, down by the side

Of Felder 205 Chem E

Trying to learn Chem E

Trying to learn Chem E…
