Professor Fanxing Li has received two very strong recognitions of his outstanding performance as a faculty member…
First, Dean Martin-Vega has appointed Prof. Li as an Alcoa Professor. Nominees for the Alcoa Professorship must be full-time tenured associate professors or professors who have distinguished themselves in teaching, research, or extension.
Second, Prof. Li was selected to receive the 2020 Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award. The Award recognizes young faculty members “who have accomplished outstanding research achievements during the preceding three years.”
Professor Li’s research interests include energy and environmental engineering and particle technology. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of nano catalyst and reagent particles for biomass and fossil energy conversions, green liquid fuel synthesis, CO2 capture, and pollutant control.
Prof. Li joined our department as an assistant professor in 2011 after completing his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. degree at The Ohio State University. His other awards and honors include the SABIC Young Professional Award given by the AIChE Particle Technology Forum (SABIC is the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation), an NCSU Sigma Xi Faulty Research Award, and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. During his time at OSU, he received the Best PhD in Particle Technology Award from the Particle Technology Forum of the AIChE, a Young Researcher Award from the International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering (ISCRE), and in 2009 he was honored for having written the “Most Downloaded Article” by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
In 2018, Prof. Li was selected as an “Early Riser” by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). Early Riser in this case refers to his selection as one of twenty high-achieving researchers and educators under-40 “who’ve demonstrated talent for teaching or research, or both.”
Congratulations Professor Li for your outstanding accomplishments as a faculty member!
