Professor Fanxing Li is an Early Riser! Early Riser in this case refers to his selection by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) as one of twenty high-achieving researchers and educators under-40 who’ve demonstrated talent for teaching or research, or both, with real-world impact, and nothing to do with his sleep habits.
The selections are reported in the Summer 2018 issue of the ASEE magazine, PRISM. According to the ASEE, “They were selected to highlight the vital role of engineering and engineering technology programs in generating solutions to society’s big challenges and shaping a globally competitive workforce.”
Termed an Emissions Wizard by the ASEE, Dr. Li’s research interests include energy and environmental engineering and particle technology. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of nano catalyst and reagent particles for biomass and fossil energy conversions, green liquid fuel synthesis, CO2 capture, and pollutant control.
Dr. Li joined the Department as an assistant professor in 2011 after completing his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. degree at The Ohio State University. From 2009 to 2011, he was a research associate in his home department (Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering) at OSU. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in our department in 2016.
Professor Li’s other awards and honors include, the SABIC Young Professional Award given by the AIChE Particle Technology Forum (SABIC is the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation), an NCSU Sigma Xi Faulty Research Award, and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. During his time at OSU, he received the Best PhD in Particle Technology Award from the Particle Technology Forum of AIChE, a Young Researcher Award from the International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering (ISCRE), and in 2009 he was honored for having written the “Most Downloaded Article” by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
Congratulations Professor Li for your outstanding career accomplishments!
